Before the Initial GI Nutrition Consultation
Whether your doctor referred you to us or you found us online, you are here for a reason. Working with a GI-expert Registered Dietitian is a vital component to improving your digestive health and well-being. We are here to help support you on your gut health and healing journey.
Our outstanding patient care coordinator, Leah Browning will contact you to discuss what you are looking for when working with a GI dietitian. She will do her best to answer your questions and will assist you in scheduling the initial nutrition consultation.
Once you are scheduled, you will receive an email with a link to our secure, HIPPA-compliant client portal to complete the intake forms and review the practice policies. This step is imperative as we want to make sure we are in-network with your insurance and give you time to verify benefits for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) with your insurance company.
During the Initial GI Nutrition Consultation
First and foremost, we practice active listening and compassionate care. We will listen to your concerns and reasons for the consultation. There is no judgement. We are NOT the food police!
Our GI dietitians will spend 55 minutes with you in-person at our NW Portland location or via Telehealth. It is completely up to you, but we love seeing clients in person again. 😊
We practice evidenced-based diet and nutrition therapy. In addition, we apply an integrative functional nutrition approach which means we conduct a deep dive into why you are experiencing digestive distress. We will discuss your past medical history, surgical history (if this applies to you), gastrointestinal symptoms, pertinent laboratory data, medications, social history, diet history, food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities, and nutrition and herbal supplements. In addition, we conduct nutrition screening for disordered eating behaviors and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).
This in-depth discussion will help us understand your unique GI experience and will allow us to begin to formulate an individualized diet and nutrition plan of care.
Please note this is not a one-size-fits-all approach and diet and nutrition therapy is a journey.
We incorporate diet, nutrition, lifestyle, and behavior modifications to improve your quality of life. These interventions take time, patience, and dedication.
After the Initial GI Nutrition Consultation
A 45-minute follow-up consultation will be scheduled within 1 and 4 weeks after the initial consultation to review your response to the individualized diet and nutrition interventions.
We are here to support you. You can send your provider a secure message with any questions you may have. We make our best effort to respond to messages within 24-48 hours.
